My #EarthFootwear Shoes Are Made For Walking And That's Just What I'll Do

By Cathy Chester on June 30, 2015

NOTE: When I found out I'd be attending The Consortium of Multiple Sclerosis Center's annual meeting in Indianapolis I was concerned about the amount of walking I'd need to do. My right leg and foot have been numb for years, and walking long distances can become problematic. So I knew the importance of packing the right pair of shoes. That's when I decided to write a review for the disability and midlife audience, or for any woman looking for a comfortable pair of shoes. Here goes!

The older I get the more discriminating I become about the shoes that I wear. After all I’ve had these feet for over fifty years and I’ve tortured them enough during the days of wearing pointy-toed heels.

Those days are long gone because now I look for shoes that offer both style and comfort. Whether I’m dressing up or enjoying a casual day I want my feet to feel their best in the shoes I wear.

It’s also important to find a shoe that provides flexibility and stability. Being unable to feel my foot means it’s more important than ever to wear a shoe that offers the kind of structure I can rely on to keep my feet strong all day.

So when the nice people at Earth Brands Footwear offered me a chance to review their shoes I jumped at it. It hasn’t been easy finding a new pair of sandals that meets all of my requirements, and since all Earth shoes offer padded heels, extra cushioning and good arch support I knew I was in the right place.

When I first laid eyes on their Bay sandal I fell in love. (Yes, I’m that kind of girl about shoes.) I couldn’t wait to try those beauties on. And when I read more details about the Bay I thought it's going to be the shoe for me.

I love the colors, texture and feel of this cushioned sandal.

“An edgy twist on the iconic gladiator sandal with stunning laser cut leatherwork and gold metal studs. Premium leather upper with glove-soft leather lining. Exclusive comfort footbed that cushions your foot from heel to toe and contoured arch support for all-day comfort.”

It was good timing, too, because I was getting ready to fly to Indianapolis for a work-related event. The event was in a sizable hotel and my job would require a lot of walking, something I’m always concerned about since my feet tire easily.

If my shoes are uncomfortable it could spell disaster.

When I first took my new sandals out of the box I do what I always do first – check their flexibility. I grabbed each end and bent them toward one another. Yup, they were flexible alright. They passed that first test with flying colors.

The rubber soles of my new sandals provide me with stability when I walk.

Then I put them on. I couldn’t believe how cushiony they were. Ahhh, they felt so good to stand in.

I should have known they’d feel good on my feet. Earth Brands Footwear was originally designed as a health and wellness footwear company, and a Danish yoga instructor envisioned a way of extending that wellness into utilitarian shoes that would provide wellness for the feet.

The company is mindful of what women are looking for in shoes. They offer contemporary styling with comfort to create a unique collection of footwear for us to look and feel our best as we move around in our busy day.

I wore my new sandals in Indianapolis more than the other shoes I packed. Whether I was wearing a skirt or casual pants my new sandals looked stylish and kept me comfortable all day long.

Now I’m thinking about getting a pair of their slip-on flats (I’m eyeing the Bindi) and I also need a new pair of Mary Jane's (I'm considering their red Bella.) With their free shipping and returns it makes buying shoes online even easier.

What makes buying shoes from Earth Brands even sweeter is their concern for our planet. They want our feet AND our world to be healthy. So they’ve partnered with the nonprofit restoration organization Trees for the Future that plants trees to keep the Earth healthy. Their motto is “Buy Shoes, Plant a Tree on Earth.”

Earth is also concerned about giving back to the community and teaching others about core values. I think that's pretty special, don't you?

  1. I love these shoes! They are so cute and if they are comfortable as well, that's all I need to know. When I finish writing this comment I am going online to do some shoe shopping. And might I add, your toenail polish is very pretty!

  2. Well, how cute are these shoes! Love the fact that they're healthy first and cute second. Thanks for a fun and educational post, Cathy.

    PS How was the conference/

  3. I am not a jealous person. Especially when it comes to product reviews. But I can't tell you how jealous I am.

    They are so pretty!

  4. Hi Cathy. Great post! I love the look of the shoes. Very cute. I've always had trouble finding shoes to fit due to my small, wide feet. I was born with spina bifida and have had a lot of foot surgeries. I walk unaided and wear high top sneakers most of the time. I've found a few pairs of dress shoes that feel okay, but I actually prefer sneakers. I've tried sandals, but never found ones that fit. My feet are too short. I love your blog, celebrating abilities and the positive. It's so important.

  5. Those are really cute! I have to wear flat shoes and I am always hunting for attractive ones. I have a trip coming up with lots of walking and these look perfect. Those flats with thin leather soles never cushion my feet enough.

  6. Oh, I love Earth footwear. I have a few pair myself. I love these styles and am going to sign up for the newsletter! Thanks much I forgot about getting a few new pair of them. Love the pair you are wearing too!

  7. It's had for me to buy flats and I know how popular they are now. However, I'm liking that Bindi shoe and might have to try it out even though it's a flat. Also like that they give back.

  8. Very interesting. I wore the "Kalso" styles in the '70s. Now, I've often thought the heel style might be beneficial for spastic calf muscles due to MS.

  9. My first visit to your blog! I love the pictures that greeted me! And those shoes are pretty darn adorable. I have pins and plates in both feet, so I have learned to take care of my two good friends - have learned that lesson late. I am going to check out those Mary Janes, you have inspired me to maybe add some color to my very boring blacks and browns! Wishing you a peace filled day, thanks for such a great post.

  10. I love those shoes. I am looking for a pair of comfortable open toe shoes that don't look like I will be running in the water! I signed up and I am looking. Thanks!

  11. Very cute shoes along with the comfort my poor tired feet need, winner! I will definitely be looking for these shoes when I go shoe shopping again! Thanks for the information.

  12. Beautiful shoes! I've always gone by the adage of "I buy shoes for function, not fashion." These are lovely and seem like they're ideal on BOTH counts! I just may need to check out a pair for an upcoming lighthouse tour I'll be covering! Hmmm...

  13. This is great that I can go to a place looking for inspiration and support, and also find honest reviews on shoes (comfort and support - especially for us with ms - an important, necessary staple for our well being and safety). A small thing like this can help us feel so much better about ourselves, thus improving our health. I find it very hard to find shoes that are comfortable, supportive, safe and are still stylish. I buy shoes and have to try them out, and within a week, they usually don't work for me and then can't make a return. This happens 95% of the time. I have secondary progressive ms and not working since 8/14. I am on disability now. But, when I checked out the Earth Brands website, I see they are a little too high priced for my financial situation. I can barely pay my mortgage. But, because these are quality and will last, it will actually save me money in the long run. I am saving to get a pair, maybe 2 different kind. It would be worth it. I think insurance plans should cover these and all kind of things and services that contribute to our well being. Well being care, not disease care! Please keep up the advice/reviews for anything that you think can help. Thank you for your honesty, constant inspiration; and, just being there for us who need someone and somewhere to go to share, feel connected and to know we are all in this together and we are not alone. 14. Oh my gosh!! I haven't seen this, but they will be on my feet in a couple of weeks. Thanks, Cathy. My feet kind of suck, so it's always hard for me to find shoes. These look awesome, and will cover up my bunion (I tell people I was a ballerina to explain my bunions, but I wasn't).

  15. Cathy, thanks so much for the review! I have been trying so hard to find decent, comfortable, supportive and cute shoes. I have a bad knee, and i need to find something to wear other than my walking shoes. Or switching shoes when I get to my destination. Can't wait to try these. ps - have a great time in Indy!

  16. I don't normally like flats/ballerina-style shoes, but the Bindis are pretty stinkin' cute! (Yours are cute, too. *smile*) After 5 knee surgeries 35 years ago, I should probably check out Earth Brands. Thx for the heads up! 🙂
