How Can You Help Animals In Need? Listen To These Celebs (Giveaway)

By Cathy Chester on April 11, 2016

All animals are perfect. All rescuers are heroes. Let's do what we can to make sure all animals receive the love and respect they deserve, particularly those who are abused or neglected. How can you help? I brought along a few friends to help me show you how.

On April 10th the ASPCA celebrated its 150th anniversary! This is quite a milestone, and to honor it they launched 150 Days of Rescue, a nationwide action campaign to unite the country in making a difference in the lives of homeless and abused animals.

Animal lovers are encouraged to visit ASPCA.org/150days to pledge their time between April 10 and September 7 to help animals in need. The goal is to reach 150,000 actions for animals in 150 days. You can volunteer at a local shelter, donate, foster, adopt a shelter pet,  or take a look at other ways you can help.

  1. What a great cause. The pictures are wonderful. For spring and summer birthdays of those animal lovers in my life I will often give a donation in their name. Perfect for this campaign.

  2. Loved this Cathy! My husband and I are considering adopting a dog very soon. We lost our beloved Jack 6 years ago and only now feel ready to do it again. I'll keep you posted!

  3. Thank you for sharing this! All of our animals have been rescues. We are down to one cat after having two large dogs four cats and two boys. I mean, we are down to one cat and two boys. I was just thinking how peaceful it is and now you made me read this!

  4. I'm the lady who can't watch the SPCA/Humane Society commercials when they post pictures of abused animals. I literally have to turn the station. It does something to me. I have two dogs, one 13 year old senior dachshund with back issues and she takes much of my time in caring for her. I can't imagine my days without her. Then my little 4 year old chi who believe it or not, just got diagnosed with the same back issue. Hoping his won't be as hard as Molly's. They become a part of us and this is a wonderful post on helping these beautiful creatures who can't help themselves. Thanks for sharing this.

  5. We adopted our last pup from the local shelter and look forward to doing it again! Thanks for spreading the good word!

  6. You are preaching to the choir my friend! We both give and volunteer and hope to continue to do so for many, many years. I am not sure we ever get another dog - the last two were so deeply embedded in my heart that I am not sure I can do that again -- but if we do it will definitely be a rescue! Thank you for sharing your heart and our shared passion!

  7. I love interesting photos and I love the cause. We're currently fostering a basset hound through the Basset Hound Rescue of Southern California. Rescues aren't always the easiest critters to deal with - some are abandoned because of behavior problems - but they are wonderful.

  8. Does this mean I can take Jason Schwartzman home? I think my condo association will allow that. When I again live somewhere that I can have a dog, it will be a rescue. Luckily, my PT brings her dog to the office, so I get some doggie lovin' twice a week.

  9. I love these photos! Rescue animals are the best -- so loving, so grateful for a second chance. I would never buy from a breeder. Our rescue pets have been a joy. I hope this campaign raises even more awareness of the plight of unwanted animals. Sharing this post to spread the word.
