Content Is Always King But A New Blog Design Completes The Picture

By Cathy Chester on April 25, 2014

Well, folks, here it is.  My redesigned blog, with a new header, logo and theme. I know that content is king, but it feels good to have a new design to match my personality while focusing on the mission of An Empowered Spirit.

content blog

Midlife. Ability Despite Disability. Social Good. Animal Rights. Writing. Nature. Movies. Books. Travel. Life.

When my site first gave me trouble I PANICKED. I ended up having to remove the entire theme of my blog. The only constant was my writing.  Then I realized it's always the writing that matters most .

Hey, Jane Austen didn't have a blog, right? Okay, I'm not Jane Austen, but you know what I mean. Good writing always comes first.

But we all know how nice it is to experience a makeover. Sort of like going to a spa and getting the full treatment of massage, facial and a mani/pedi.

Ahh.

Allow me to quickly introduce you to my photographs that you see in the new header (left to right):

  • Sixteen beautiful peony shrubs that my father planted along our driveway.
  • The beauty of the ocean in St. Petersburg, Florida.
  • A gorgeous sunset as seen from our front porch.
  • Our Russian Blue kitty, Smokey, rescued from the streets of Newark.
  • Water lilies as seen at The New York Botanical Gardens.
  • One of the gorgeous flowers at The New York Botanical Gardens.
  • View from our deck at The Ritz Carlton in Palm Beach, Florida.

I'd like to thank the very patient Janine Huldie for helping me re-create my site.  Thanks for putting up with the zillions of questions I had.

Here's to moving forward now, empowering each other with all of the joy and wonder in our lives.

What makes you feel good today?

  1. I Love this SOOOOO much. Let me count the ways.... design is clean and clear. Colors are lovely. Only one sidebar space (smart). The new font style is lighthearted but still sophisticated. It is accompanied by that cool 'starburst' design to the left and I love the ombre effect from magenta to grey. And, leave it to you, to create a header that incorporates not only beautiful images but meaningful ones! That you shared their meaning with us all is what I love most- about this post, and you. Well done. Now off to the spa!

  2. The new design is beautiful, Cathy, and captures your vibrant spirit perfectly. (Although, honestly, I would read your inspiring writing no matter what the site looked like!) xo

  3. Your new site design looks great Cathy! Beautiful in fact. And I am encouraged enough to consider redesigning my blog too. I think they get a little tired after a while and your's looks fresh and very professional. Good for you! ~Kathy

  4. Aww, Cathy it was absolutely my pleasure to work with you on this and seriously had so much fun being able to put your own style and footprint on your wonderful space here. You are truly a lovely and beautiful lady, so the pleasure was all mine to not only get to indeed work with you, but get to know you that much better through helping you with this. Thank you again for allowing me to help you and so glad you love your new design and theme 🙂

  5. Hi Cathy,
I love your vibrant new blog design! What a wonderful palette for your creativity. What makes me feel good today: walking in the sunshine on a lovely Spring day! I am so glad that our NYC days are getting longer and warmer.

  6. Cathy I just love your redesign, it captures you so beautifully! I love your header, and I love even more that you explained each photo. I did not know your cat was a Russian Blue, my husband's sweet cat for 17 years was a Russian Blue he found on the streets when he was in college. They are the sweetest cats with such fun personalities. Congratulations on your new home!!
